Hi, Jo, it’s good to see more of your painting. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having a difficult summer from the standpoint of the weather. Bonnie Jean and I are having a much cooler summer than usual and for the past few days we’ve been closing the windows at night. Our house faces north and there’s been a cold wind from that direction after the sun goes down. The downside of this cooler summer is that we might have a terrible winter. The last time I remember it being this cool in summer we had the nightmare winter of 1977-78, which has gone down in Buffalo history as the worst in memory. The Blizzard of Seventy-Seven shut down Greater Buffalo for days on end and was largely responsible for our bad reputation across the country as the snow capital of the Lower Forty-Eight. It’s our 42nd wedding anniversary today and Bonnie was too sick and in pain for us to celebrate as we had planned. She was really sick this morning but feeling a lot better this evening. Your paintings look really good to me and I’m glad that you’ve signed up for another course. I wish I could paint half as well as you do. Lots of love to you and your family, I look forward to catching up on you, your husband, Derek and Carynne in the chat. Talk to you soon. ❤️!

Sorry to hear Bonnie is unwell, hope she feels better soon. We have an anniversary later this month, number 47. My next painting is a winter one, stay tuned.

I enjoy what I see here. I am also a Jo but Joanne. I am new to visual art, having been a performing artist for many years. Not so sure why exactly but almost 2 years ago I decided to learn. I found my way into watercolor and have explored other medias. Very fun. I have the time in retirement. I retired from nursing at 70 and then became Nanny to my 4 grandchildren. I will be 77 in November and this summer has been the first time to have time as the kids don’t need as much guidance. Long story to wondering how you got to today?

Welcome! My real name is Joanne. I started back into painting in a big way seven or eight years ago. Was able to retire before I was 60.

Thanks for sharing.

Honestly, my July was spent between my houses like previous months (in the city and in our garden-villa). Also, my parents and I would frequently go to our garden-villa to escape from hot to very hot temperatures in the city. And by this point I've become a semi-expert at packing my Go-bag(s)[depending on whether I wanna take a shower at our garden-villa or not].

The city heat can be unbearable. My son lives in NYC and we won't go in to see him til September.

Yeah, the city heat becomes unbearable, especially when the air conditioners don't work. It's such a privilege that your son lives near you, but for mothers, no matter their kids's ages, they're always kids.

Jo, I found a new word I love hobby maxing. I’m with you, I would not be outside at all with all of those insects and the things that you would have to do to protect yourself to just get out there and walk. I think your watercolor paintings are beautiful.

Thanks for the restack, Kathleen. I love all my hobbies but sometimes feel the pressure of too many unfinished projects
